Now It’s The Generation Gap!
Six months after comedienne and well known Grumpy Old Woman Jenny Eclair launched Gaps for Grumpies in London with the slogan “Why should students have all the fun?” we are now seeing the birth of the Generation Gap where both parent and child work together on community projects in developing countries.
Agnes Williamson, a housewife aged 54 from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, is travelling in July with her daughter Laura who has just graduated from Bath university, to a village in the Rift valley in Kenya to help build a school.
Agnes said today : “I was pleased when Laura said she was going to help in a village in Kenya. But when she suggested that I came too I thought I’d be out of place there with all the youngsters. Then I learnt that there were now a number of grumpies out on projects in Africa – so why not?”
Laura, aged 24, said : “When I told my mum I was thinking of doing this she said it was something she wished she had done, so I said ‘Why don’t you come too?’ I am now really looking forward to sharing the experience with her, we know it will be hard work but I am sure it will be unforgettable.”
Gaps for Grumpies works with student gap specialists Madventurer to send over 40’s, who want a career break, who have just retired or who want an unusual and “useful” holiday, on 2 and 5 week projects in 5 countries worldwide – Ghana, Tanzania, Peru, Kenya and Fiji. Now they are combining to encourage parents and children to work on projects together.
